Cycle

The slowest pendulums make Swings full swings per cycle, each ring after them one more. At the end of the cycle all of them line up again.

Damping

Coupling pulls pendulums toward the average phase until they swing as one. Detune breaks the perfect realignment. Damping lets the swings die out; press Release to lift them again.
